"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy."
Proverbs 31:8-9

Vocational Training Center

We purchased (BY PURE FAITH) the land and the gutted “shell” of the building for our Vocational Training Center in Uganda, Africa in May of 2021. It was completed in 2022.

We saw the grave necessity to give individuals a skill-set that will help pull them out of poverty, teach them independence and help them feel good about themselves and their achievements.

The school teaches basic skills to those who need a source of income, so they can provide for their family.

All who complete the courses will get a certificate and will then be able to seek employment. To date, many have signed up for the courses. The cost is very minimal. For those that cannot afford the cost, FOLA will award scholarships.

The students were so very grateful for FOLA’s support and are doing a great job! I have heard firsthand testimonies of changed lives! They have also started a cooking school on their own, as that will allow some to work in a restaurant type atmosphere or help them start a business. Our classes in all 3 categories are completely full and we have already outgrown our building! We are looking at 2 empty lots that we could possibly purchase and construct more classrooms.

Personal Testimonies

My name is Anita Namala. I am 15 years old and am one of many children. I started my education journey and finished 7th grade at Mercy Junior School. After 7th grade, I sat at home for 2 years, crying every day, because I loved school and wanted to go to high school. I kept on praying to God to open a door for me. When the Vocational School started I joined on a FOLA scholarship. I have now been in training for 2 months and have learned how to make dresses (which I am selling while learning) and shirts. I am now happy to see where I am going in becoming a fashion and design specialist. I want to support my family siblings, so they can go to school.

My name is Sandra Amollo. I am a married woman who had spent one year trying to find what to do, until I got this opportunity to study tailoring. After finishing studying, I will help my family and children. Thank you very much for the scholarship

My name is Catharine Tindimwebwa. I am a single mother. I had always desired to find something to do to help my family, so when VTC opened, I asked if they could help those who don’t have money. I filled out a scholarship form and was approved. I joined and am doing my best! I have already started earning income, because someone gave me a sewing machine to use at home. I use it to practice and now I can make dresses and repair people’s clothes.

My name is Dorcas and I am 22 years old. I didn’t get a chance to go to school all my life. I have been a house maid in people’s houses. I didn’t even know that I could become a better person. I have lived a life of crying, as I have no parents to help and thought this suffering was normal life. One day I heard about the VTC hairdressing school and ran to enroll. It opened my mind that I could leave being a house maid and living a life of torture. I have learned a lot. First, I learned how to read and write and can now even speak English. When I finish school, I want to find a job and later start a hair dressing business. Thank you for supporting us! We now see the light ahead!
